I AM IN THE NAVY RESERVS - CAN I ATTEND?
ANS. RANR personnel are welcome to attend. The following guidelines apply, feel free to contact CSO(R) if any further amplification is required:
1. You do not need to be on reserve days to attend.
2. You do not need to apply to Reserve Cell permission to attend.
3. Approval to attend will come from NAS via the nomination signal (it will be sent info to your local RRPM)
4. If you are not on CFTS you do need to have your own private Health cover and income protection insurance.
5. You can utilise our transport from the major localities, getting there is the individuals responsibility.
6. IF accommodation is limited or our numbers are limited for any reason we reserve the right to place RANR (who haven't done >20 days) on a separate list and give PN personnel first preference and active NR personnel second preference to attend. (This limit has rarely happened and shouldn't happen at the station.)
DO I HAVE TO TAKE LEAVE TO PARTICIPATE?
ANS. No! In accordance with DI(N) PERS 70-7 para 37 and 40, any uniformed member of the ADF authorised to participate in sport within the terms of the DI(N) is deemed to be on DUTY and will be covered under the normal provisions of the Commonwealth Employees Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988. Inter Unit Skiing is covered under programmed Sport and therefore members are required to be on Duty.
DO I HAVE TO SKI OR SNOWBOARD REALLY WELL TO PARTICIPATE?
ANS. No! If you have been to the snow a couple of times and can snowplow or board down a slope safely, the competition is the perfect opportunity to improve your skills, as well as attempt racing for the first time. The Perisher Blue Ski School and Race Department hold lessons in race technique prior to holding the races, so all participants are familiar with racecourse procedures on the competition days.
DO I NEED TO HIRE SKI/SNOWBOARD GEAR BEFORE GOING TO
ANS. It is up to you. Hiring equipment near your home may be cheaper than on the mountain, plus it is one less thing to think about once at Perisher Blue. Hiring on the mountain does have it's advantages, if you are unhappy with your equipment in any way, or would like to try different skis for the races, this is possible as the shop is accessible. Reasonable prices are also available for ski tuning.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME TO THE COMPETITION?
ANS. If required all ski and snowboard gear can be hired on the mountain. It is compulsory to wear goggles and a helmet whilst racing or race training. You will not need anything more than normal ski and snowboard gear. Recommend sturdy footwear for walking in snow and ice. It will be cold, so bring stuff to keep you warm (think more than just clothing…).
WHAT IS THE STANDARD OF DRESS UP AT THE MOUNTAIN?
ANS. You will be representing the Navy so dress sensibly. Neat, casual and warm.
WHAT SORT OF FACILITIES ARE AT THE STATION RESORT?
ANS. The Station has everything located in the hotel. Services include: two restaurants, Ski hire, EFTPOS services, wireless internet and Bar services. The Station is located a fair distance out of Jindabyne (more than walking distance unless your name is Fil Ridgway) however we will look at putting on a bus if there is enough interest.
IS IT ALL INCLUSIVE AT THE STATION?
ANS. 5 Breakfasts are provided, along with 3 dinners and the presentation night dinner. Lunch is your own responsibility on the mountain each day.
CAN I WEAR JEWELLERY WHILST AT INTER-SERVICE SKIING?
ANS. For all personnel, Male and Female, during working hours (0700 to 1700) same rules apply as if you are at work.
NOTE: That means for Male personnel, no earrings until after hours!!
HOW DO I PAY?
ANS. Preferred method is by internet banking transfer to the NAS ADCU account. Alternatively you can take the application form into ADCU, fill in the deposit slip then pay the money to the ADCU staff. They will stamp the form, you then fax the Application form to the NAS Secretary. Remember to keep a copy of the recipient and bring it with you when you attend Inter-service skiing. Remember to ask the staff at ADCU to flag your name against the deposit on the computer so the treasurer is able to tell who the money has come from.
I AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE ACCOUNT NUMBERS WHEN PAYING - WHAT IS CORRECT?
The account for ADCU internal transfers is 676337S1.
Transfers from outside of the Australian Defence Ccredit Union (that is from NAB, CBA etc ) it is just 676337
CAN I PAY IN INSTALLMENTS TO ADCU?
ANS. Due to the difficulties evolved it is not possible to pay in instalments to the NAS ADCU account. We suggest that you open up an account at your local branch under your name and allot $35 per pay to this account for the duration of the year. When it becomes time to pay your deposit all you need to do is transfer the money from your S2 to the NAS ADCU account flagging it with your name. Advantage: No big outlay of money and you will find that you will have a little left over for spending money when you are up at the snow.
DO I RECEIVE ALLOWANCES?
ANS. You are on duty so you are eligible to receive incidentals only. However it is funded by your own unit, not NAS, and your CO can say no. Ask but be prepared to have to attend without allowances. NAS has no funding to pay allowances.
